Mechanical castings make use of the advantages of resin sand casting machine tool bed castings: the rigidity of resin sand casting is good, and the strength of sand casting is high at the initial stage of casting. It is conditional to use graphitization expansion during the solidification process of cast iron. Mechanical castings can effectively eliminate shrinkage defects and shrinkage defects, so as to realize fewer risers and no risers for gray cast iron and nodular cast iron castings. The mechanical castings in the production of full mold casting are made of polystyrene foam mold and furfural resin self-hardening sand. When the liquid metal is poured into the casting mold, the foam plastic pattern gasifies rapidly under the action of the high temperature liquid metal, burns and disappears. The liquid metal replaces the original position occupied by the foam plastic, and solidifies into a solid casting with the same shape as the model. Comparatively speaking, EPC has great advantages over traditional sand molds in the production of single or small batches of automobile panels, mechanical castings and other large-scale molds. Mechanical castings not only save the expensive cost of wood molds, but also are easy to operate, shorten the production cycle and improve the dimensional accuracy of machine castings bed castings. It has the advantages of small processing allowance and good surface quality.
Characteristics of mechanical castings: good wear resistance and shock absorption. Graphite in cast iron is good for lubrication and oil storage, so mechanical castings have good wear resistance. Similarly, due to the existence of graphite ground, the seismic absorption of gray cast iron is better than that of steel, and the technological properties of mechanical castings are good. Because of its high carbon content and close to eutectic composition, gray cast iron has low melting point, good fluidity and low shrinkage, so it is suitable for casting complex structure or thin-walled castings. In addition, the machinability of gray cast iron is better than that of steel because graphite makes it easy to form chips during cutting.
Mechanical castings are mainly used as blanks of machine parts, some precision castings can also be directly used as machine parts. Bed castings as a large castings need heat treatment to improve their performance and internal quality of cast iron plate.
