In recent decades, with the development of modern science and technology, there is an increasing demand for cryogenic valves in engineering projects. Cryogenic valves are used more in the fields of fertilizer, LNG and petrochemicals. In addition to liquid nitrogen and other liquid inert gases, the medium controlled by the cryogenic valve is not only flammable and explosive, but also vaporizes when heated or flashed, causing the volume to expand rapidly, which easily leads to leakage and explosion. Based on the characteristics of the medium and the requirements for adapting the valve to low temperature, the design, manufacture, test and installation methods of the cryogenic valve are different from those of the ordinary valve.

Low temperature valve definition

Different standards have different definitions for cryogenic valves. Generally, -46~-150°C is called low temperature, and -150°C or lower is called ultra-low temperature.

The definition of cryogenic valves in the petrochemical industry is defined by the design temperature of the transport medium. Generally, valves used below the medium temperature of -40 °C are called cryogenic valves, and valves applied below the medium temperature of -101 °C are called ultra-low temperature valves.
